dpk431 #000: Cover
I know what you’re thinking. How can a webcomic without art have, well, art.
Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away, I tried recruiting artists to work on dpk431, and whilst I was never quite able to find anyone to work on it on a regular basis, I did get a few terrific character pieces that I’ll be meting out over time.
The image on the cover is one of my favorites, courtesy of one Jesse Henderson.
Now if that sort of historical perspective is your bag, baby, then I encourage you to peruse the page, About dpk431, with said historical perspective and a few other pieces of dpk431 aht.
That said, and not to beat a dead horse, if anyone is interested in rendering this cover (or any page for that matter) in their own particular idiom, they (by which I mean you) are more than welcome to do so. But if you do, please send me a copy at jen@possiblegirl.com.
Cover Notes:
- The cover design is based on the original trade paperback cover for The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller (lovingly lifted from a high school teaching guide).
- The art itself is from The Dark Knight Returns, Book One and has been parodied almost more times than I can count: Cerebus. Darkwing Duck. The Boys. Mighty Mouse. Old Man Logan. Harley Quinn. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And, yes, even Clint the Hamster.
- In a perfect world, the cover for this prologue would follow suit with an overly muscular silhouetted superhero flailing through the air. Flailing, I say. Nothing but high-brow humor here, folks.
- The font, Gotham Nights (whilst under the influence of Photoshop), is not exactly the same as the one used for the classic trade paperback cover, but it is close enough for my purposes.
